RESCUER
REsilient Solutions for Coastal, Urban, Estuarine, Riverine environments is a Doctoral Network funded by the European Commissions's MSCA program of excellence.
Mission
The Doctoral Network RESCUER
(Resilient Solutions for Coastal, Urban, Estuarine and Riverine Environments)
will train 10 young researchers to tackle medium and long term water challenges that face coastal communities, focusing on forecasting and modeling of coastal, riverine, and urban flooding and associated water quality issues.
Vision
RESCUER will leverage advances in the numerical treatment of multi-scale and multi-physics problems made in the past decade, into models to address the pressing needs in the practical modeling of hydrodynamic phenomena in the coastal and estuarine zone with the goal of improving overall safety of coastal area
WP 1: Coastal modeling
Develop numerical tools to represent wave action in the nearshore zone in a wave-by-wave manner.
Enable operational wave forecasting over steep bathymetries, complex coastal geometries.
WP 2: River and estuary
Developing accurate and fast numerical models for the study of coupled surface flows over erodible beds with porous subsurface in connection with dry and wet granular flows on unstructured meshes
WP 3: Urban flooding
Development of a congested shallow-water model that incorporates collisions between moving objects.
WP 4: Water quality
Development, calibration and validation of an integrated hydraulic and biochemical model able to simulate the complete urban coastal water system
